1830s Favourite Girls Names in St Mary Bourne

There are 36 different first names recorded for girls in the baptism records for St Peter’s Church in the 1830s. The top three are:

  1. Mary (27)
  2. Ann/Anne (16)
  3. Elizabeth (15)

Again looking at the “Dictionary of First Names”1 I’ve picked a couple of names. Starting with Adelaide a name likely used as it was the name of the current popular Queen, wife of William IV.

One that surprised me as being missing from the dictionary is Brittania, which according to the website “The Bump”3 means “from Brittany or Great Britain”.
